JOB SUMMARY:

The Recovery Support Specialist is responsible for assisting individuals in recovery by advocating for them, providing emotional support and helping them locate resources (medical, housing, employment, etc.), that will help them rebuild their lives.

SCHEDULE:

Monday - Friday 8am-5pm

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Facilitate groups in which participants help each other face challenges such as stigmatization, discrimination and misunderstanding in the community and with family members, identify personal strengths, interest, social relationships, hope for the future, and sources of well-being, as well as learn new knowledge and skills that can support their recovery journey combined.
  2. Assist participants to learn how to find community opportunities, resources, and destinations that match their own interest and hopes for the future.
  3. Assist participants to become more comfortable with self-advocacy.
  4. Conduct Individual Interviews with participants to assist them in identifying their needs, preferences and goals related to services and their personal Recovery.
  5. Write notes that describe patient encounters and group experiences.
  6. Serve as a role model who shares personal strengths and skills as well as the idea that hope for recovery is possible for everyone.
  7. Provide recovery check-ups with individuals who have transitioned from the service setting into the community
  8. Support individuals in developing comprehensive Recovery Wellness plans.
  9. Support individuals in identifying, building, then strengthening their relationships with recovery allies.
  10. Assist individuals in identifying their personal obstacles to recovery.
  11. Participate in orientation, training, staff meetings, and supervision services.
  12. Assertively connect participants to relevant community resources by periodically accompanying them so they may seek opportunities to build new relationships.
  13. Assist people with identifying and connecting with the supports and services that will help them sustain their wellness and long-term recovery.
  14. Strengthen existing community connections and building new ones that can help people move forward in their own recovery journey
  15. Assist participants in identifying their own interests, gifts, skills, passions, life goals, as well as personal sources of resilience and hope for the future.
  16. Work closely with management team to uphold the core principles of Cenikor's culture and create a positive working environment for all team members.
  17. Perform additional duties as assigned and consistent with the exempt functions as assigned in this job description.

QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE POSITION:

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:

  • Experienced in facilitating groups and providing information to groups
  • Experienced in working with diverse population
  • Excellent public speaker and customer service provider
  • Excellent time management skills to meet aggressive deadlines and prioritize multiple tasks
  • Effective communication and networking skills
  • Knowledge of local resources (medical, housing, employment)
  • Ability to utilize approved mental/verbal de-escalation techniques to resolve mentally/verbally abusive situations
  • Ability to work flexible hours
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office software required, including MS Outlook calendar

EDUCATION:

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Must be certified Recovery Support Specialist RSS

EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum one year related experience required working in group with individuals in recovery
  • Minimum 1 year lived substance use experience required
  • Experience in prevention/substance abuse field preferred

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Complete 46 hours of Recovery Coach Training
  • Complete 25 hours of supervision, 500 hours work experience
  • Take test with ICRC and send results of ICRC test, and application to TCBAP for Certification
  • Must be certified Recovery Support Specialist RSS
